Very spicy (特辣) triple maocai was very good! Spicy enough to sweat, not so spicy to be unpleasant. Generous serving, good service (need water!). Long Jing ice cream parfait was a pleasantly strong tea flavor, though a little icy of a soft serve. Cake at bottom contributes little texture, but grass jelly is excellent

I heard so many great things about LALA Spicy Lab prior to coming to this event, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. LALA Spicy Lab serves up maocai which is like a single serving hot pot usually consisting of a spicy stew/broth like soup LOADED with fish and beef balls, spam, veggies, and beef (which is my choice of protein). I got it with rice just so I can have the stew mixed with the rice - perfect combination. But I was caught off guard with their dessert option: Black Tea pearl parfait! This was a game changer. Now I understand why I see people coming in to the resto and simply just ordering the parfait to go. It was not overly sweet, but super rich in black tea flavour. Pair that with the boba, and it was a perfect blend! Thanks to @yelptoronto and @Lalaspicylab for such a great dining experience.

I’ve been living downtown for about a month after moving from uptown, and I’ve already visited three times in that short period. This is the best malatang I’ve ever had. Although the wait was long, the service from the staff was excellent, so I had no complaints. They even offered snacks and milk tea while we waited, which was a really thoughtful gesture. I was genuinely impressed by their kindness.

I enjoyed the delicious food and the friendliness of the servers. They had a cozy atmosphere and the place was clean and well-kept. Their portions were massive and they were definitely generous with their ingredients. I brought my friend who used to live in Chengdu and she told me that the flavors are authentic and rich. We chose the Signature Mao Cai with soup with beef brisket and the Spicy Sesame Peanut Paste Mix with Beef Tenderloin. The server was kind enough to let us know the spice profile of the dishes and we chose medium spicy for the sesame peanut paste mix and mild spicy for the soup. Both dishes were 5/5. I recommend their Handcrafted Thick Noodles for the dry mix and the Sweet Potato Noodles for the soup. Both types of noodles gave a fun bouncy and chewy texture to the two dishes. We also had their parfaits: Black Tea Parfait and Green Tea Parfait. The black tea had boba and grass jelly and the green tea had hints of citrus notes with grass jelly and green tea loaf cake. We thoroughly enjoyed both parfaits as they were not too sweet and were perfect to finish off our spicy meals. One thing we really appreciated was how our server was so helpful. She answered our questions and regularly checked up on us to see if we needed anything.

Visited Lala since Oct last year for 4 times already. Enough spicy and food size is big. Jessica is so lovely and very energetic. Great dining space at here!

This is my go-to spot whenever I’m near the UofT campus. They serve super generous portion of Mao Cai with a huge variety of ingredients, and the flavors are authentic and rich. My usual pick is their signature Mao Cai with soup, and I recommend pig trotter, beef tongue and roasted duck( though sadly, they don’t offer duck anymore). I always go for less sugar, less salt, and a mild spicy soup base—that way, I can fully enjoy the meal without needing to drink too much water . Their ice cream is interesting too! I’ve tried both the lotus-flavored and matcha-flavored sundaes, and I’d definitely recommend the lotus one. One thing I really appreciate is the fun seasonal touches—they gave out chocolate cookie snacks on Valentine’s Day, and on Halloween, everyone dressed up as vampires or bloody killers. Definitely a fun experience!

Felix is super nice and friendly. Food was amazing (little too spicy for me though should’ve ordered something more mild). My favorite was the ice cream with the deep fried bread. Absolutely chefs kiss!! Would definitely come back again!!!!

An authentic and flavorful Chinese spicy pot experience! The wait was short, and the service was impeccable. Our server was incredibly accommodating, ensuring we had an excellent dining experience. The dish was rich in aroma and packed with bold flavors, offering great value with generous portions. The appetizers, as well as the dessert mochi and ice cream, were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend!
